I started designing surfboards in 1977 with my first custom board made by Pure Design. My wings with a chime came from that first board. Since them I have had the good fortune of doing the ordering for a shop in here in Corpus Christi from manufacturers such as Surfing New Image, Surfboards Hawaii, G&S and my personal favorite, Caster/Challanger Surfboards. I still have one of those Casters hanging up in my wall racks. Later on I was able to meet up with some great people like Matt Kechele, Jeff Haney, Roger Hinds, Glen Minami and a Texas legend, Bob Martin not excluding a great deal of help from Ned McMahon. I thank them all for their great hospitality and what knowledge they chose to share with me.
Something that I have observed in the industry (not from any of the people mentioned above) was the occasion customers ordering a board, getting not what he ordered, but what the shaper thinks they ought to have. I believe that if you earned the money to pay for it , you should get what you asked for. The customer is not only invited to the shaping room, but requested, so that we end up with that concept of your surfboard, converted to reality.
